Review: Peaky Blinders - The Immortal Man

3/15/2026

Hello there! I haven’t seen the movie. But I’ve seen the spoilers. And I have something to say. Okay, if you haven’t seen the movie, I compel you to exit out of my site (which is the weirdest sentence I’ve typed out since I think I’m the only viewer of my own blog lol; but we are so close to 500k; I don’t even know how that’s possible). I’m going to watch this movie with my co-worker, maybe this summer. I think the last quarter of the year is just so busy, that we might have to wait for summer to catch up.

Anyway, I’m glad I saw the spoilers before I plan  to catch it in to the movie theaters blind with my one of my work-wives. That’s a loose term. I would’ve bawled my eyes out. Like how could Paul Anderson’s beloved character Arthur Shelby be dead??? It felt like a gut punch when I saw the reviews coming in.

I didn’t find anything satisfying explanation on Reddit or Threads, so here I am throwing my razor blade hat in the ring ; o ;  The only mythological archetype I can think of this fratricide between the Shelby brothers is the myth of Remus and Romulus - twin brothers that were founders of Rome.

So I guess every empire has its shadow. And then I just can’t stop thinking about Tommy as the weathered old king, and Arthur as his berserker warrior brother, and the illusion that they loved each other so deeply, they couldn’t possibly hurt each other.

So perish all who leap over my walls!

In any version of the myth, Remus, the boundary-testing brother dies whether it was on purpose or by sacrifice. And I just finished reading about Ornitography and the whole vultures symbology is another punch in the gut.

Oh Arthur, I’ll miss you forever.

I know the actor did have personal things going on in his life so he couldn’t actively be a part of the movie, so there’s that. But I wish they just left his character alone if he wasn’t going to be in the movie. I mean I would’ve asked for my money back at the theater, because damn, why would I waste two hours without Arthur? Honestly, without Arthur, this franchise is dead to me.

The only small consolation prize is that Knight said he’s going to make a 1950s Era of the Birmingham boys and well that’s honestly hardly any solace.  And I think there’s also a second film in the making. But I’m not too keen on watching it now that Arthur is gone.
