I wish I saw him again for the third day of Space Con, but I had work the next day, and my allergy attack just wasn’t easing up. What is so cool to me is that Richard has a blog that he uses to keep in touch with his fans. I think it’s called “Notes from Rick” and I think someone helps him maintain the site. Which is so awesome. Because a lot of the people I admire, are also bloggers or ex-bloggers, I should say. Sen Mitsuji and Chiara Ferragni used to be bloggers before they decided to focus on their modeling and business career. And it’s just so mind-blowing to me that Richard, like the rest of the people I look up have the same core as me: which is to blog and connect with others through digital platforms.
I don’t even know where to start on recounting the events. A lot of people (and I agree with them), wish that this convention was organized in a much better way. I bought the VIP passes but it was so frustrating how it didn’t feel like I was getting my money’s worth out of it. Another girl that was in line for the ticket sales, said that the one in Austin was way better because with the VIP pass, you could float around to different celebrity autograph tables and you can just pay additionally there. There was no need to buy time-blocked tickets (which was anxiety-inducing) especially if the celebrity you were waiting for got delayed or the schedule changed. The volunteers that worked in the Freeman Coliseum said to not rely on the app and for someone who’s first time in a convention, I got overwhelmed pretty quickly. I didn’t get to see Hayden Christensen or Ewan MacGregor (while waiting for RDA in the afternoon) because like I said when I bought the tickets online it said it covered the Photo OP and autograph voucher but it turns out you needed to buy additional tickets for every activity you wanted to do. I wish they just renamed the tickets as “VIP admission” instead of it saying “VIP photo op and autograph” because it turns out, I just paid to enter the building for three days and the goodie bag wasn’t all that great - because all I got were some lanyards and a popcorn bucket with no VIP parking. I don’t mind the extra expense, but I wish that when I bought the admission tickets, they also included the additional tickets I needed to purchase at the same time before completing the entire purchase. I’ve heard of Space Con being a hot mess before, but for me, in the end, it was worth it just to see RDA. He was the only actor I wanted to see. But I almost didn’t get to see him because the volunteers kept telling me that I had the wrong tickets, and I was panicking so hard while I was in the long ticket sales line. Luckily, the Photo OP sessions and the autograph sessions weren’t sold out. I would’ve cried so hard if after paying a steep price for admission tickets, that I didn’t end up seeing RDA. That part was crazy. I’m just glad that the girl in line (we both drove from Houston), reassured me that I didn’t suck at making sure I had the right tickets, because everyone else was also confused about the tickets. And RDA was super nice. He said he would stay til the bitter end and sign every item he needs to sign even if he has to stay way later. And that’s why all his fans love him. Including me.
I’m sorry I had to get that part off my chest. One of the other parts that I did like about Expo 2 was that the restrooms were clean and well maintained. And the volunteers were super nice. Overall, it was a good experience. Hopefully, I become better at navigating conventions. And become a pro at it. Also, I didn’t take photos of the cool cosplayers I saw, because I didn’t wanna get kicked out of the convention.
I showed RDA, a picture of my step-cousin Nicolas. It’s this black and white photo of him from his Instagram. I should’ve messaged him if I could also have a picture of my Uncle Guillaume. But I didn’t because I wasn’t thinking straight at this point after seven hours of waiting. And as much as I didn’t want to annoy RDA, I kept insisting that they look the same. And he was so self-deprecating. He was like “No wayy. Look at his muscles. I wish I had his beard” —- I forgot what his exact words were exactly because I was so nervous and flustered around him, but I think he said something along the lines of “Wow, the French version of me is hot” lol. It was so fun talking to him. Like we’ve been friends for a long time. I’m usually afraid of men, but with RDA, I just felt so calm and safe. When I look at him, I feel like I’m looking at the ocean. Which is the complete opposite reaction I had when I first looked at Nicolas. It felt like I was on fire and drinking my favorite red wine.
Maybe in the next Comic Con, I can invite Nicolas with me so that Richard would finally believe me that they’re twins! To be fair, I didn’t realize who Nicolas’ doppelgänger was until after I left France.
Richard drew red hearts for me and that made my whole night, weekend, year!!! I think he did that because of how girly I dressed. I had pink ribbon in my hair, a light blue dress, red undergarments (because I was channeling Sith vibes). But I did try to tone it down with my Vader jersey, but I guess Richard still read me as a girlyyy girl haha. Before leaving, I asked Richard if I could shake his hand and he said “You must.” And during the photo ops, he complimented me and mom saying we were beautiful. And when we showed him the result of the photos he said to my mom “You have a lovely daughter.” He’s the most perfect man alive. Every other man can go back to Mars.
I didn’t know San Antonio could be so romantic. Especially at night. This was my first time seeing the River Walk. I wish I wasn’t so unwell (my allergies have been getting worse lately) so that me and my mom could’ve explored more. But I’m glad my mom had a great time. I bought these Space Con tickets for her as a late birthday present. I told her about it in July and she was so happy because MacGyver is her favorite.
