Vader Takes Austin | Keep Austin Weird (Please) | Six Hours in Austin | Sunset Valley

12/28/2025

I underestimated how cold it would be in Austin. I only wore suede and leather because I was channeling my inner MacGyver fashion era. I ended up buying a brown puffer jacket, pink scarves, pink earmuffs, pink gloves, UGGS slipper, and grey stockings to brave the cold while we were there. Sigh. So much for my masculine fashion sense. I’ll be more ready next time.

I didn’t reserve any hotels because Mama Bear said we don’t need it. So it was a fun simple getaway:

Our day went like this: Cafe Leona | Home Sense | HomeGoods | Daiso | Barnes & Noble | Sam’s Club | Capitol & Congress Street | Franklin’s BBQ

In late January, I hope I can come back to a tattoo parlor, and ask them if they do semi-temporary tattoos of an Ouroboros design I have in mind. To cover the burnt scar on my left thigh.  Hopefully, there aren’t any crazy winter storms a brewin.

Sometimes, I wonder what would’ve happened if I decided to go to UT Austin instead because I got accepted there, but I decided last minute that I didn’t want to go, and go to the university in my city instead.  I don’t regret not going there. Not even a little. Because

I would not trade my Professor Avery for any prestigious university in the world. He was meant to be my professor and I was meant to be his student. But I love how Professor Avery would scoff at the word Fate. He would rather I call it recognition. He changed how I saw the world. He has an orphanage and a school in Haiti. He goes there every summer once he has efficiently networked and found new sponsors.  He didn’t like how the French government fucked over Haiti’s economic and political structure. He vented about it one time during one of our lectures to us. It was the only time I didn’t mention to him that I have family in France because I didn’t want him to hate me. But when I went to Europe for the first time, I went to Italy first. And it made me think of him because he said his ancestry is from there. He’s the third male figure that I ever felt safe with. He made all of us feel seen, important, and cared for. It’s so weird that he said after we graduate, we can start calling him Matthew. Never
