Book Sample Review - Straight On 'Til Morning (A Twisted Tale) by Liz Braswell

Disclaimer:

I made this series because I am a beginner at book reviews, (Currently no access to ARC - "Advanced Readers Copy") and I have no way of getting my hands on a lot of books, without spending a ton of money. I mean I do have access to a library app that I am eternally grateful for (Thank you, Libby I love you to death), but there are some items on there that are not available.

Hence, I made this series where I can get a feel of whether or not I would be tempted to continue reading a book by going ahead in making the next step of purchasing / picking it up, judging it on the three free chapters the authors or publisher has provided on Amazon Kindle.

My reviews for (1) samples and (2) books that I purchased with my own money are not going to be spoiler-free. I realized that it's very hard for me to make reviews without touching on certain topics, so while I label it on the title as a "Book Review", it would really be more of a "Book Analysis" or "Book Discussion." Viewers discretion on that part. As of now I only have Libby, Prime Reading, Book Bub, and Book Sirens on my utility belt. If I ever plan to do a Book Subscription or sign up for Kindle Unlimited, I will also disclose it to the readers.

Copies of books that I've acquired through "Books Sirens" will be spoiler-free. That is a part of their policy when giving out free copies directly from the author. In exchange for a free copy of the book, it is strongly recommended that spoilers are not included so that it won't spoil the story or plot for other future readers. I am always going to label it with a hashtag, #BookSirens so you'll know that a particular review will not contain any minor or major spoilers.

I'm sorry for the long intro, but I need to clear this up in every post. Anyway on to the review!

Reaction:

This one feels jarring and disjointed, the same as "As Old As Time." One star for effort or the lack of it. I liked some parts of the sample. The dialogue and the sectioning of paragraphs was a lot better than the Beauty and the Beast, "As Old As Time." Much better. The new characters that Braswell introduces, the twins, for example, felt authentic. And they actually feel like villain material.

A lot of reviewers on Amazon have admitted that Braswell's works are either a hit or miss. I still can't make up my mind if I would like to continue reading, "Straight on 'Til Morning," but I also feel like it has the potential to be a good read based on the three chapters that I got. I hope it stays on that course.

I'm gonna read this along with "Once Upon A Dream." For first impressions, I am sticking by the one star rating. The rating for reading the full book (because things might turn around), is going to be much different. I'll do an update in one of the monthly favorites.

  1. I love this idea! I was so excited about this series when it came out years ago but I read maybe the first chapter of Once Upon a Dream and I just wasn't interested. I picked up this one cause I love Peter Pan but I'm super hesitant; I'm afraid I'll hate it!

A couple of other places to borrow books from is Scribd and Kindle Unlimited -- other than that I use to review books on NetGalley, I don't have much time to read anymore so I stopped but it was a great place to get started with ARCs!

    1. Hi Hazel! Exactly! Thank you for telling me that you feel the exact same way about the books! I felt bad for saying Disney didn't make something good, but thank god, I'm not alone.

I think out of all the three sample chapters that I've read from Liz Braswell, her work on "Straight On Til Morning" is the best one. Even though Braswell's writing style still doesn't compare to Elizabeth Lim.

Omgosh, thank you for letting me know where you borrow your books! You're a life-saver! xx đź’•I'll definitely check out Scribd and NetGalley!

And I'm glad you liked the idea of doing book samples series. I also don't have a lot of free time, so I thought samples may be more manageable :)

Oh and I just checked my twitter. Thank you for adding me to your book blogger and gamer list. I'm new, so it means a lot that you've included me.

      I hope you're having a wonderful day! x
